12 Step (his side)

Updated: Jul 20, 2020

After everything happened with Tiffany finding out about my addiction, I knew I needed help other than just visiting with our marriage counselor. Tiffany and I found the 12 step program, and I went the next day. I can't explain how nervous I was. But I knew if I wanted to better myself and to show my wife I love her and that I did want to change, I knew I needed to start showing her that I was committed to getting help. As I came to the building where the 12 steps were being held, I felt as though there was only going to be three people there. But I was sure wrong; there were close to twenty people there. From that moment I felt hope. I hadn't felt that probably ever in my fight against this addiction. I was lucky enough to have caught the first lesson or step one known as honesty. Basically, it is admitting to yourself that you can not Conquer this addiction on your own. And we must need help to attack it. I learned that day that with support and being honest with myself, with God, and with others that I could conquer this problem I have. I later went to other meetings and learning many other great steps and tools to moving forward and through this addiction. I also met people that were going through the same problems I was. I was able to learn from them. It helps to have somebody there understanding your thoughts and feelings and ready to learn from their mistakes as well. But also to have somebody else rooting me on. Going to a support group was a great help in the process of beginning my recovery.
